Elizabeth II was born at 21 april 1926. Her full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary.21 she was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime and 15 at the time of her death.


Elizabeth and her younger sister  were schooled in the nuances of royal etiquette by their grandmother.

The princess received a private education with a focus on British history and law.   She frequently went to races and breeding competitions. Elizabeth had a well-known bond with Pembroke Welsh corgis as a young kid .

Elizabeth and Margaret spent much of World War II living apart from their parents in the Royal Lodge at Windsor Castle. In 1942, the king made Elizabeth an honorary colonel in the 500 Grenadier Guards, a Royal Army regiment.

Two years later, he named her as a member of the Privy Council . The Council of State, enabling her to act on his behalf when he was out of the country.

In 1947, soon after the royal family returned from an official visit to South Africa and Rhodesia, they announced Elizabeth’s engagement to Prince Philip of Greece, her third cousin (both were great-great-grandchildren of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert) and a lieutenant in the Royal Navy. She had set her sights on him when she was only 13, and their relationship developed through visits and correspondence during the war.

Elizabeth and Margaret lived separated from their parents for a significant portion of World War II in the Royal Lodge at Windsor Castle, a fortified castle outside of London. The king elevated Elizabeth to the rank of honorary colonel in the Royal Army’s 500 Grenadier Guards in 1942.

Two years later, he appointed her to the Privy Council and the Council of State, giving her the authority to represent him when he was away from the country.

Elizabeth’s engagement

On February 6, 1952, when King George VI passed away from lung cancer at the age of 56. At that time they were in Kenya. His 25-year-old daughter then became the sixth woman to hold the British throne in history. The Westminster Abbey witnessed her official coronation as Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953.

In response to criticism over the use of public funds to repair the royal palace Queen Elizabeth decided to pay taxes on her own income. British law did not necessitate this, despite the fact that some prior kings had also done it.

Her personal wealth was valued at $11.7 billion at the time. She also consented to charge a fee for access when she was not in residence  at Buckingham Palace.

Diana maintained her enormous popularity with the British (and global) public even after Charles and Diana’s divorce in 1996. Following her untimely death, there was a huge outpouring of sorrow and grief.
Despite initially keeping the family including Princes William and Harry away from the media at Balmoral, Queen Elizabeth was eventually persuaded to fly back to London, pay tribute to Diana in a televised speech, greet mourners, and permit the Union Jack to fly at half-mast above Buckingham Palace due to the outpouring of support for her.

An era of monarchy

During the first decade of the twenty-first century, the queen’s and the royal family’s popularity recovered. Despite the fact that 2002 was Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee 50 years as monarch the early deaths of her sister and mother (the adored Queen Mum) put a damper on the celebrations.

When the queen approved of Prince Charles’ formerly unthinkable marriage to his longtime girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005, she received widespread backing from the public.

Prince Philip retired from his royal duties in 2017, at the age of 96. Throughout much of his wife’s reign, he was a steadfast supporter by her side and one of Britain’s busiest royals. The royal pair celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary that year, making it the longest marriage in British history.

Meghan Markle

The biracial divorcee Meghan Markle, whose welcome by the royal family demonstrated how contemporary it had become over Elizabeth’s lengthy reign, was married to Prince Harry in May 2018. Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, a son, was born to the couple in 2019, and Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, a daughter, in 2021.

At various points, there were rumours circulating that Queen Elizabeth would abdicate so that Prince Charles might ascend to the throne. Queen Elizabeth transferred several of her royal duties to him in 2017.   the formal Remembrance Day ceremony, which fueled rumours that she was getting ready to pass the crown to her eldest son are included.
